Family Sponsorship

Would you like to help a family member immigrate to Canada?

The Family Sponsorship Program is designed to reunite families in Canada. If you are a Canadian citizen or permanent resident, you can sponsor certain family members from abroad to immigrate to Canada.

Our lawyers can advise you about the eligibility of your family members for sponsorship, the immigration process  and the kinds of evidence you will need to submit to be successful.

For greater peace of mind, we can also prepare your sponsorship application for you.

To arrange for a consultation (with legal advice) or representation by our firm, contact our office by phone or email. We can help you no matter where you live (in Canada or abroad).

Family Sponsorship Program

Generally speaking, only immediate family members of a Canadian citizen or permanent resident are eligible for sponsorship under the Family Sponsorship Program.  Immediate family members includes, for example, spouses, common-law partners (including same-sex couples), children under 18 years of age, parents, grandparents and siblings under 18 years of age. (In certain cases however, it may be possible to sponsor other kinds of family members). The criteria that must be met will vary depending on who you wish to sponsor.

A family sponsorship application is commenced in
Canada by the potential sponsor.  In order to qualify as a sponsor, you must demonstrate that you are able to financially support each family member you are sponsoring and that you are not ineligible to sponsor. (Please note that the financial requirement does not apply to a spousal sponsorship).
